Overview
Just The Browser is a lightweight, open‑source script that disables built‑in AI suggestions, sponsored content and most telemetry in the three most popular desktop browsers – Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Mozilla Firefox. It works on Windows, macOS and Linux (Edge on Linux is not yet supported).
What Features Are Removed
The script targets browser‑specific AI and data‑collection features while preserving useful functionality such as page translation.
- Chrome – removes AI‑driven search suggestions, “AI Mode” button and non‑essential telemetry.
- Edge – disables Microsoft Copilot, AI‑enhanced search prompts and telemetry (except crash reporting).
- Firefox – turns off tab‑group suggestions and other AI‑based UI nudges, while keeping translation services.
Installing the Script
The installation process is identical for all platforms: copy the appropriate script from the official Just The Browser website and run it in a terminal with administrator rights.
Step‑by‑Step on macOS
1. Open Terminal (Spotlight → “Terminal”).
2. Paste the copied script (⌘‑V) and press Enter. The script will download a configuration profile from GitHub.
3. When macOS prompts, click OK and then Install in the System Settings window that appears.
4. After the profile is installed, the “AI Mode” button disappears from Chrome’s address bar, confirming the change.
5. To modify another browser, repeat the process and choose the corresponding number in the terminal menu. Use the “Remove Settings” option to revert.
Reverting Changes
If you later decide to restore the original settings, run the same script and select the “Remove Settings” option for the desired browser. The profile will be deleted and AI/telemetry features will return.
Conclusion
Just The Browser offers a quick, script‑based way to declutter Chrome, Edge and Firefox of unwanted AI pop‑ups and telemetry, giving users more control over their browsing experience without sacrificing core functionality.
