Watch the Full Video Before Reading Comments

Comments can be engaging, but diving in before the video ends often fragments attention and can skew your opinion. Finish the video first, then explore the discussion.

Turn Off Autoplay

Autoplay is enabled by default and can lead to unwanted video chains. Disabling it gives you full control over what plays next.

  • Tap your profile icon.
  • Select Settings (gear icon).
  • Go to Video and audio preferencesPlayback.
  • Toggle off Auto-play next video.

Clean Up Your Watch History

Your temporary interests can corrupt the recommendation algorithm. Regularly prune your history to keep suggestions relevant.

  • Visit Manage all history on YouTube.
  • Identify videos you no longer want to influence recommendations.
  • Remove them individually or clear sections of history.

Avoid Accidental Gestures

Touch gestures are handy but easy to trigger unintentionally, leading to paused videos or unwanted screen changes.

  • Pinch‑zoom: place two fingers and bring them together to return to normal view.
  • Swipe up: opens landscape mode—use only when you intend to switch orientation.
  • Swipe down: minimizes the video and shows the Home page—avoid if you want uninterrupted playback.

Customize Playback Settings

Fine‑tune YouTube to match your learning style and comfort.

  • Set a default video quality to avoid buffering.
  • Adjust playback speed—choose a balance between speed and comprehension.
  • Enable or disable captions as needed.
