2025 Smartphone Market at a Glance

Global smartphone shipments rose 2% in 2025, the strongest increase since 2021, according to Omdia. The growth was driven primarily by flagship devices from Apple and Samsung, each posting a 7% year‑over‑year gain.

Top Performers

Among all manufacturers, Honor recorded the highest growth rate, expanding its shipments by 11% compared with the previous year.

  • Apple – 7% growth, 240.6 million units shipped (iPhone 17 lineup)
  • Samsung – 7% growth, strong demand for Galaxy S25 and Galaxy Z Fold 7
  • Honor – 11% growth, the fastest among flagship makers

Honor’s Momentum

Honor’s surge was powered by the launch of high‑profile devices such as the Magic V5 foldable and the Magic 8 Pro. It was the only major Chinese brand to post double‑digit growth; rivals Oppo and Xiaomi fell 3% and 2% respectively, while Vivo managed a modest 4% rise.

Other Android Brands

Google’s Pixel line performed well in 2025, but specific growth figures were not disclosed in the Omdia report. Earlier Counterpoint Research data suggested solid overall growth for Pixel.

Looking Ahead to 2026

Industry analysts warn that rising memory prices and heightened component competition from data‑center demand could push smartphone costs higher, potentially slowing sales in 2026.

What’s Next for Honor?

Rumors point to a “Robot phone” that combines gimbal‑style camera hardware with AI features, as well as a new foldable expected to be showcased at MWC 2025.
