What Is Project Genie?

Project Genie is an experimental web‑app prototype built in Google Labs that lets users create, explore and remix interactive 3‑D worlds in real time. It is powered by the Genie 3 world model, the Nano Banana Pro sketching tool and Gemini.

Core Capabilities

  • Text‑and‑image prompting – Describe a scene with words or upload images to generate a living environment.
  • World Sketching – Use Nano Banana Pro to preview and fine‑tune the world before entering it.
  • Dynamic navigation – The system predicts the path ahead as you walk, drive, fly or otherwise move through the world.

How Genie 3 Differs From Traditional Models

Unlike static 3‑D snapshots, Genie 3 generates the next segment of the world on the fly, simulating physics, interactions and any real‑world scenario. This real‑time consistency is a step toward the general‑purpose AI needed for true AGI.

Current Limitations

  • Promptable events that change the world during exploration are not yet available.
  • World realism and character control are still being refined.
  • Genie 3 is an early research model, so performance may vary across devices.

Future Outlook

Google plans to broaden access to Project Genie, integrate more interactive features and continue research with trusted testers across industries. The ultimate goal is to make world‑model technology a useful tool for robotics, animation, education and generative media.
