Introduction of Material 3 Expressive UI

Google’s Android team has been working on overhauling various system apps with the Material 3 Expressive UI. One of the apps that received a refresh was Google Clock, which introduced changes like prominent fonts, larger buttons, and more vibrant background colors.

Changes to Alarm Functionality

With the revamp, Google changed the alarm functionality by replacing the snooze and dismiss sliders with buttons. However, the option to use a slider may be returning soon.

Settings Option

In the future, Google Clock may show a new Settings option: “Dismiss an alarm with a”. Tapping it shows how the two options appear differently when an alarm goes off, and you can choose the one you like.

New Features and Visual Elements

Google is introducing some new features with the update, including a thicker slider bar for alarm volume and two tiny arrow buttons to scroll through lap times.

Update Availability

These options are already present in Google Clock 8.5. To get the options, make sure you update the app to the latest version from the Google Play Store. Note: The feature to choose between a slider and buttons to dismiss the alarm has yet to go live.
