Introduction to Face Chime
Facer, a popular smartwatch face platform, has announced the release of its new Face Chime feature. This exciting update allows watch face makers to add custom hourly chime sounds to their creations on Wear OS 6.
How Face Chime Works
Face Chime sounds are applied to watch faces by their creators, so only compatible faces will support this feature. Unfortunately, this update doesn't allow users to add hourly chime sounds to watch faces on their own. However, Facer says that thousands of watch faces on its platform will be updated with Face Chime sounds over the next few weeks.
Optional and Customizable
Hourly chime sounds are optional, and once enabled, Face Chime effects abide by system settings. This means that your watch won't be beeping on the hour while you're sleeping or when your watch is in theater mode.
New Watch Face: Pip-Boy 3.0
Along with the new Face Chime feature, Facer has also released a fresh new watch face based on the Pip-Boy wearables in Bethesda's Fallout series. The Pip-Boy 3.0 face comes with a handful of customizable elements, plus support for Face Chime.
Availability and Future Updates
Facer says that Face Chime options are now available to watch face makers in the platform's Creator Partner Program. While there are only a handful of compatible faces today, Facer expects there'll be thousands of watch faces with Face Chime support in the next few weeks. You can check out the initial selection at Facer's Face Chime collection page, but be aware that the collection is still limited.
