Tame Your Notifications
When you first power on a new Apple Watch, the default setting mirrors every iPhone alert, which can quickly become overwhelming. Choose only the essential apps – for many users that means keeping Messages, WhatsApp, Calls and a sports app like FotMob – and disable the rest. This one‑time change makes the watch feel focused from day one.
Force a Quick Return to the Watch Face
By default the watch stays in the last‑used app, which can be inconvenient when your hands are wet or you need to glance at the time. Set the “Return to Watch Face” timer to a short interval (e.g., 5 seconds). This keeps the device behaving like a true watch while still allowing longer pauses for workouts.
Adjust Live Activities and Auto‑Pause
Live Activities are useful, but they can become a semi‑permanent overlay. Lower the “Auto‑Pause” threshold so workouts don’t start and stop erratically, and keep Live Activities active only when you explicitly open them.
Fine‑Tune Sound and Haptics
The default “balance” tone is often too loud for public spaces. Reduce the sound volume and boost haptic intensity. This way you get discreet alerts for most notifications while still hearing critical alarms.

- Open the Watch app → Notifications → keep only essential apps.
- Settings → General → Return to Watch Face → set short timer.
- Settings → Workout → Auto‑Pause → adjust sensitivity.
- Settings → Sounds & Haptics → lower sound, raise haptics.
