What is Intrusion Logging?
Android has a reputation for being less secure than iOS. To change this, Google announced Intrusion Detection last year. This feature helps users track if their private data was exposed to hackers or if their device was compromised.
How Does it Work?
Intrusion Logging records activity on your device. These logs are encrypted and stored in the cloud. Only you or an account you trust can access them.
Setting Up Intrusion Logging
The Intrusion Logging option is at the bottom of the Advanced Protection menu in Settings. You can enable it when you set up Device Protection. The introduction screen reminds you that activity logs are end-to-end encrypted.
The description screen shows the type of data that is backed up. This includes:
- Device connections
- App installs
- Screen unlock time
- Browsing history
- Other data
Logs are automatically deleted 12 months after upload. You can download logs locally if you suspect your device's security may have been compromised.
When to Expect the Feature
The feature hasn't gone live yet. We expect it to arrive with the stable release of Android 16 QPR3.
Key Highlights:
- Intrusion Logging records device activity
- Logs are encrypted and stored in the cloud
- Only you or a trusted account can access logs
Remember to only enable Intrusion Logging from trusted sources.
