IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Explained

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awards the Top Safety Pick+ to vehicles that achieve “Good” ratings in its crash tests, meet pedestrian‑front crash prevention standards, and receive Good or Acceptable headlight ratings. Introduced in 2013, the award signals superior real‑world crash survivability.

Accord’s Test Performance

The 2025‑2026 Honda Accord earned Good scores in the small‑overlap and moderate‑overlap front crash tests, as well as the side crash test, with only a few Acceptable ratings for leg, foot, and pelvis injury protection. It also received an Acceptable rating for pedestrian front crash prevention and a Good rating for headlights.

Trim Levels, Powertrains, and Pricing

The Accord is offered in six trims across two powertrains:

  • Base turbo: 1.5‑liter turbocharged 4‑cylinder, 192 hp, CVT – 0‑60 mph in 7.3 seconds.
  • Hybrid: 2.0‑liter inline‑4 with two electric motors, 204 hp – 0‑60 mph in 6.7 seconds, quarter‑mile in 15.3 seconds.

Pricing starts at $28,395 (LX) plus $1,195 destination, totaling $29,590. The top‑of‑the‑line Touring Hybrid is $39,495 MSRP, or $40,690 with destination, adding premium features such as a Bose sound system, heated/ventilated leather seats, head‑up display, and 19‑inch wheels.

Why the Accord Stands Out

Alongside the Hyundai Ioniq 6, Hyundai Sonata, and Toyota Camry, the Accord is one of only four midsize sedans to receive the 2025 Top Safety Pick+ award, highlighting its blend of safety, performance, and value.
